Margaret Steele Obituary

Margaret Alice Steele, age 83, of Lexington, born April 22, 1941, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky to the late Arthur and Clara Mae Hendren Steele, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, surrounded by her family, and a caring hospital staff, that she called “friends”, after battling a long illness.


She was the 11th of 13 children, a homemaker, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many throughout her life, opening the doors of her home graciously to anyone in need of sanctuary. A die-hard UK Wildcat fan and avid reader, she professed her love for God, loved music and dancing, passing on those loves to her family.


She is survived by her children: Gloria (David) Cheak, Lawrenceburg, Tracy Hart, Bryantsville, Todd (Marla) Hart, Lexington, Thaddeus Hart, Bryantsville; one beloved sister and lifelong best friend: Loretta “Dodi” Hammons, 16 grandchildren: Micah (Beth), Nathan (Nicole), and Brandon Cheak, Lydia Bolin, Chase and Caitlin Eckler, Colin Hart, Logan (Abigail) Curtis, Gannon, Skyler, and Payton Hart, Hunter, Mackenzie and Gable Hart, Tanner and Konnor Hart, 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her son, Troy Wayne Hart, two grandsons, Cameron Hart and Taylor Cheak, 6 brothers: Paul, Clarence, Donald, Leonard, Eugene and Glendan Steele and 5 sisters: Rebecca Dennis, Francis McCormick, Annetta Mobley, Virginia Goldman and Linda Lingenfelter.


Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Monday, March 3, 2025, at the Springhill Cemetery Pavilion, 529 Greenville St., in Harrodsburg, Kentucky on 40330.


Memorial gifts are suggested to a church or charity of one’s choice in memory of Margaret.
