Rick Akers Obituary

Richard Jeffery “Rick” Akers, age 53, of Harrodsburg died Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Ephraim McDowell - James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born May 2, 1971 in Morehead, KY,he was the son of Patty (Kegley) Akers and the late Sammy Akers. Rick worked in production at Summit Polymer and enjoyed being in solitude at home on the farm where he spent a lot of time with his domestic partner Debby Carter.


Rick was the first kid to ride a sheep in the Rodeo at 4 years of age, at age 9 he started deep sea fishing. He was once a part of the National Trail Ride Association, was part owner of his family’s zoo, Bluegrass Animal Land, and worked for FEMA for 2 years doing disaster work. He loved horses and teaching Youth Blacksmith Programs.


He is survived by: his partner, Debby Carter; his son, Corey Akers; his mother, Patty (Kegley) Akers; three sisters, Samantha Pope, Sheila Sharp and Mary Lambardo; three nephews, Nash Pope, Justin Sharp and Steffen Lamarbo; his step son, Logan (Valerie) Price; two step grandchildren, Legend and Annie Jo Price.


There are no public services planned.
