Mary Ellen “Petie” Neal, 101, Salvisa, KY, widow of James Edward Neal, died Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Ephraim McDowell James B Haggin Hospital, Harrodsburg. Born December 8, 1923, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Brent and Emma Jane (Durbin) Crawley. Mary Ellen was a nurse and worked for James B. Haggin Hospital and Harrodsburg Health Care. She loved gardening and canning what she grew, raising chickens and supplying eggs to the community, she was also an avid quilter. “Momma Neal” was about taking care of people, from her family to a stranger, from providing food to providing shelter, she cared for others.

Survivors include: four daughters: Joyce Bast of Salvisa, KY, Patricia Ann Scholtz of Danville, KY, Sandra K. Terhune of Harrodsburg, KY and Janie Ellen Stratton of Lawrenceburg, KY; too many grandchildren to count, even more great grandchildren and some great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; James Edward Neal, four sons; Luther Gene, Joe Edward, Donald Lee and Thomas Glenn Neal, and four sisters; Lagatha Monroe, Isabele Moore, Nancy Prather and Brenda Smith, and two brothers; Alvin and Manford Crawley

Funeral services will be Monday; March 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, KY. Visitation will be 11-2 PM Monday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, KY.

Pallbearers will be: Roger Long, Billy Joe Cornelius, Ben Stratton, Johnathan Robertson, Zach Taylor, and Brad & Randy Scholtz. Honorary bearers will be: Tony Bast, Brandon Stratton and Mary Ellen Stratton.
