James Marshall "Jim" Newby Obituary

James Marshall “Jim” Newby, 86, Harrodsburg, KY, husband of Scottie Newby, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, at his home in Harrodsburg, KY. Born March 25, 1939, in Washington County, he was the son of the late "J.H." and Kathleen Newby. Jim spent most of his working career in HVAC & Refrigeration; he also owned and operated Jocko & Horace’s Pool Hall for several years. Jim was by many a “jack of all trades;” there wasn’t much he couldn’t do. He was a member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church for 44+ years; he loved horses, dogs, and hunting, and field trials.


Survivors in addition to his wife; Scottie, include a daughter: Leesa (Bradford) Schwarz of Lexington, KY, son: Brent Newby of Harrodsburg, KY, step sons: Keith (Mistie) Dean and Heath (Jamie) Dean; one sister: Jane (Gus) Gouzoules and one brother: Jerry (Trish) Newby; Grandchildren: Kailey Sadler, Zachary Landers, Celia Taylor, Ryan Dean, Will Dean, Reed Dean, and Sophia Dean and seven great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; J.H & Kathleen Newby, Brother; Marvin Leon Newby, Sister; Joyce Dunning, and Special Aunt; Blanche Alsip.


Visitation will be 3-5 pm, Thursday at the Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church, 5346 Mackville Rd., Harrodsburg, KY. The Memorial service will begin at 5pm, also at Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church, with Jordan Asbury officiating.
