John P. Lay, widower of Emma Robinson Lay, 101, Danville, KY, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Morning Pointe Danville, Danville. Born February 2, 1924, in Washington Co., KY, he was the son of the late Marvin G. and Rebecca (Graham) Lay. John was a lifelong farmer and had been a member of several churches in the area over the years, including Burgin Baptist, Hopewell Baptist and most recently First Baptist Church in Danville.
Survivors include: two daughters, Susan Southworth of Danville, KY and Rebecca Green of Burgin, KY; one son, John David (Karen) Lay of Canton, GA; five grandchildren, Paul (Mona) Green, Justin (Tabitha) Southworth, Lance Southworth, Kate Norris and Jenna (Matt) Williams; twelve great grandchildren, Abby (Brandon) Price, Logan Green, Roston (Constance) Southworth, Rylan Southworth, Regon Southworth, Sarah Green, Jonathan Norris, Bailey Norris, Gabriel Green, Eleanore Williams, Isaac Norris and Leo Williams; two great great grandchildren, Cason Price and Emma Southworth; special caregivers, Betty, Carolyn, and Shari.
John was preceded in death by four sisters, Jewell Boswell, Virginia Yeager, Geneva Sanders and Shirleen Yates.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, by John David Lay and Tim Mathis. Burial will follow in Bethel Baptist Cemetery, Harrodsburg, KY, with John David Lane officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday, Aug 22, 2025, at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers are: Paul Green, Justin Southworth, Lance Southworth, Logan Green, Roston Southworth, and Rylan Southworth. Honorary bearers are: Garney Yeager, Brennan Boswell, Kate Norris and Jenna Williams.
