Helena Drury Burns Obituary

Helena Drury Burns, age 94 of Harrodsburg, widow of James Henry Burns, died Saturday, October 25, 2025 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Ky. Born February 26, 1931 at her parents’ home outside of Salvisa, KY, she was the daughter of the late Wadie Drury and the late Lottie McCoun Drury.

She was a graduate of Salvisa High School and attended Asbury College. She had worked for the Kentucky Department of Revenue, worked as an insurance sales agent, and worked and managed her family’s cattle and tobacco farm.


She was a longtime member of Claylick United Methodist Church where she worked in Vacation Bible School, was a member of the ladies circle, and was named Inspirational Woman of the Year in 2008 by the ladies circle. For a number of years she served as the Claylick Church delegate to the Kentucky Annual Conference. She assisted her husband as he served as Pastor of the Preachersville United Methodist Church, Preachersville, Lincoln County; the Mt. Edwin United Methodist Church, Versailles, Woodford County; and the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mooresville, Washington County. She was an accomplished gardener, cook, and seamstress.


She is survived by her daughter, Faith Burns of Vienna, Virginia, and her son, David (Kittie) Burns, of Frankfort.


Funeral services will be conducted by 1 PM, Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, 345 E. Lexington St., Harrodsburg, KY, by Bro. Johnny Hockersmith. Burial will follow in the Hebron Cemetery, Anderson County, KY. Visitation will be from 11 AM until 1 PM, Wednesday, also at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.


Pallbearers will be John Wimsatt, Phillip Anderson, Bruce Thompson, Ronnie Hartman, Darrell Townsend, Dallas Waterfill and Mark Wilson.


The family would like to thank everyone who has assisted their mother in any capacity in the past few years.
