Ellen Lathrem, age 88, widow of Ray L. Lathrem of Harrodsburg died Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She was always put together with such beauty, style and grace. For the ones of us she loved there was never a question of how special we were to her. Her presence will be greatly missed in our lives.
She was born April 26, 1937 in Manchester, KY to the late Harvey Lloyd and Manota (Houston) Murray. She had very fond memories of her time roaming the hills of Clay County. After a couple of moves she ended up in Mercer County where she attended McAfee High School, Salvisa, KY. She was a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church in Harrodsburg KY.
She is survived by one daughter Shelia (Gordon) Lathrem Hensley, Nicholasville, KY, and one son, Anthony Lathrem of Salvisa KY; one step daughter Leisa Royse of Louisville KY and one step son, Steve (Martha) Lathrem of Owenton KY; fifteen grandchildren: Cory and Austin Lathrem, Ashley League, Lucas and Gavin Hensley, Shannon, Rick, Megan and Shelly Spain, Heather Craddock, Sam and Andrew Lathrem, Jason Scolf, Jennifer Hitchcock and Amanda Sotelo; 27 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Son, Richard Lee Spain, Brother, Willie Houston Murray and two special nieces Carolyn Lester and Donna Wilt.
The funeral will be held 1:30pm on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel, 345 E. Lexington Street, Harrodsburg, KY with Shawn Durham officiating. A private burial will be held at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 11am-1:30pm, Friday, December 26, 2025 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Honorary Pallbearers: Ricky Spain, Cory and Austin Lathrem, Lucas and Gavin Hensley, Willie Murray Jr. and Dud Releford.
