Joseph E. Burgin “Joe”, 84, beloved husband of Janet B. Burgin, died under Avow Hospice Care in Naples, FL, on May 16, 2026.

Born May 1, 1942, in Harrodsburg, KY, he was the only son of the late Elwood and Elizabeth (Dennis) Burgin, and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

A graduate of Harrodsburg High School, he attended Georgetown College (KY) and St. Petersburg College (FL). Joe enjoyed golf and even played when he could no longer see well. Then, his friends would help him spot the golf ball. Loss of vision also took his ability to read, but he continued stories on “Libby,” an app that reads books aloud to people with vision problems.

Other survivors are Ross Burgin (Kathy), his son, of Lawrenceburg, KY, and LuShannon (Jeff) Hawes, his daughter, of Louisville, KY. He has two grandchildren, Madison Hawes of Seattle, WA, and Cooper Burgin at Centre College, Danville, KY.

Visitation will be 11 AM until 1 PM, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with a service immediately following at 1 PM, conducted by Lynn Releford of Fellowship Baptist Church. A private family Committal Service will follow.

Pallbearers will be: Cooper Burgin, Jeff Hawes, Ronnie Long, Marion Souder, Mike Bentley, Calvin Shewmaker, and Allen White.
