William Leonard Currens Obituary

William Leonard Currens, 56, 808 McCouns Ferry Rd., Salvisa, husband of Eleanor Jane Scott Currens, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at his home.


Born Aug. 10, 1948 in Mercer County, he was the son of Curtis Ben and Sonia Click Currens, Salvisa.


He was owner/operator of Currens Garage and a member of the Claylick United Methodist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was fire chief of the Salvisa Volunteer Fire Department. He attended Salvisa Elementary School, graduated from Mercer County High School and went to trade school in Louisville. He was formerly a member of the Salvisa Ruritan Club.


In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Gwendolyn Dawn Whitaker and Amy Crystal (Mike) McKenzie, both of Mercer County; one son, William Jarrod (Stacy) Currens of Jessamine County; one brother, Barry Brent (Cheryl) Currens of Mercer County, and four grandchildren.


The funeral will be Saturday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at the Salvisa Baptist Church with Glenn Gilliam officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the New Providence Cemetery.


Visitation at the chapel Thursday, June 30 from 6 until 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.. Saturday the body will lie-in-state from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.


Memorials are suggested to the Claylick United Methodist Land Debt Retirement Fund, 225 Claylick Rd., Salvisa, KY 40372.
