Obituary of Marion Joseph "Andy" Anderson

Marion Joseph "Andy" Anderson, 85 of Hope, IN, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Miller's Merry Manor in Hope. Born in Lexington, KY, September 16, 1925, he was the son of the late W. R. and Minnie Bell Thompson Anderson, and husband of Mary Florence Shuck Anderson of Hope. He had worked at Cosco in Columbus, IN, for many years and had retired in 1989. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hope where he served as deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director and Financial Secretary. Mr. Anderson, along with his wife, worked with Gideons International for almost 50 years and spoke at many area churches. He was a 50 year member and past master of Hope Masonic Lodge. Marion served on the Flatrock-Hawcreek School Board where he also drove a school bus, and had served on the Blue River Vocational Technical School Board as well. He was a past president of the former Hope Jaycees and was a Navy veteran of WWII. Marion enjoyed woodworking and made many things for his relatives and friends from lumber cut from his own trees. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial with military rites will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Other survivors include: three sons, James Richard (Cheryl) Anderson of Highbridge, N.J., William K. (Dianna) Anderson of Springhill, FL. and Michael (Penny) Anderson of Hope; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; three brothers, William Garnett Anderson of Columbus, IN, Eugene Anderson of Logansport, IN, Cape Anderson of Lexington, KY; and a sister Dorothy Nichols of Lawrenceburg, KY. Marion was preceded in death by a two brothers, Roy and Carl Anderson and two sisters, Bonnie Poulter and Irene Anderson. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International Bibles.
