Katherine Phillips Sanders, age 81, Willisburg, wife of Kenneth Eugene Sanders, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 at her home in Willisburg. Born January 20, 1930 in Pinellis County,FL. She was the daughter of the late Zephaniah and Barbara (Faul) Phillips. She was a hostess and waitress at the Soreno Resort Hotel for 12 years in St. Petersburg, FL where she met Kenneth and they were married in February 1958. She enjoyed relating her experiences such as when she met and served baseball hall of fame Casey Stengel and actor Don Ameche. She was the granddaughter of Zephaniah Phillips, Jr. who homesteaded Pass-A-Grille, Fl in 1886 and was an inventor of a burglar proof time safe and time safe improvements for which he received patents. She was also a descendant of former President Franklin Pierce. She was baptized at Inskip Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN. Survivors include: her husband: Kenneth Sanders, five daughters: K. Patricia Reed of Harrodsburg, Kelly E. Uhrig of Danville, Julia L. Todd of Lawrenceburg, Jo A. Woodson of Versailles and Jane E. Coffman of Salvisa; two sisters: Dixie Pernell of Clarksburg, WV, Mary McGregor of Madill, OK; Four Grandchildren: Nicholas Reed, Jordyn L. Woodson, Morgan A. Reed, Asa Uhrig and Miles Coffman. She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers Visitation will be Saturday, June 25, at 12 noon with a Memorial Service at 2 PM, led by Aaron Uhrig, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg. Memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society or Heritage Hospice.
