Edith Eileen "Shorty" Lester, age 83, Harrodsburg, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at the Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born February 14, 1929 in Stanford, KY, she was the daughter of the late Robert Pitts Sampson Sr. and Sallie Chestnut McQueen. She was a graduate of the Danville School of Practical Nursing, and was a former LPN at Haggin Memorial Hospital, V. A. Medical Center, and the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and had been co-owner of the Hop Inn Bus Station for 33 years. Survivors include: two daughters, Lana Garrett and Lisa Lynn Lester, both of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Dortha (Gene) Lawson of Harrodsburg, Pauline Holloway of South Lebanon, OH, Ann Baugh of Versailles; a brother, Robert Sampson, Jr. of South Lebanon, OH; two half brothers, William (Wanda) McQueen of Westchester, OH, and Lynn McQueen of Mason, OH; a half sister, Elaine Clark of Covington; three grandchildren, Bethany (Mike) Sims, Joshua (Diana) Garrett and Cory (Brittney) Garrett; two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Katie Sallee. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Friday, April 20 at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Phil Williams, Dave Carr & Joshua Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers: Michael Wells, Charlie Lawson, Jeffrey Wells, Howard Holloway, Glenn Holloway, Lindsey Rice, and Richard Selleck. Honorary bearers: Jerry Freeman, Donnie Sexton, Jon Baldwin, Ernest Estridge, Larry Royalty, Clarice Hatcher, Genie Sims, Dr. Thomas Jackson, David Taylor, Donnie Roberts, David Lawson, The Goodwill Sunday School Class members and employees of Haggin Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be Thursday, April 19 from 5 - 8 PM at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, and after 12 noon at the Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg Christian Church, Markey Cancer Center or Shriners Children's Hospital.
