Harold Smyth Burks, 79, Frankfort, KY, widower of Alice Ruth “Pixie” Burks, died Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Ctr., Frankfort, KY. Born May 10, 1944, in Cave City, KY, he was the son of the late N. Wilson and Edna (Smyth) Burks. He was a retired Attorney & Mercer-Boyle District Judge, and a Major, US Army Reserve, Retired. Judge Burks was also a member of the Graefenburg Christian Church, enjoyed canoeing and kayaking, was a model train enthusiast, and was a past Boy Scout Troop Leader. Survivors include: four daughters, Nellie (Zach) Ramsey of Lexington, KY, Emily (Drew) Dennis of Harrodsburg, KY, Leslie Hill of Shelbyville, KY and Whitney (Derek) Jones of Melbourne, FL; one son, Harold Matthew “Matt” Burks of Harrodsburg, KY; one sister, Jenny (Jim) Rowe of Oldham Co., KY; eleven grandchildren & one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Nathan Burks and Mary Ann Gregory. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM, Sat., August 26, 2023, at the Ebenezer Church of Christ, 1325 Cummins Ferry Rd, Salvisa, KY 40372, with eulogy by Raymond Grosser. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at the church. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow at Big Red Stables, 1605 Jackson Pike, Harrodsburg, KY 40330. Family suggests memorials be made to Bluegrass Wildwater Association, www.bluegrasswildwater.org/donate, or to Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice, 1733 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY 40504 Arrangements by Ransdell Funeral Chapel, where expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.ransdellfuneralchapel.com.
