Paul R. Bunton, 84, Nicholasville, husband of Ruth Garriott Bunton, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, KY after a long illness. Born May 7, 1925 in Mercer County, KY, he was the son of the late John T. and Myrtle Irene (Bickers) Bunton. Paul was a Navy veteran from World War II, serving as a Pharmacist Mate, Seaman 2nd Class on the U.S.S Numitor in the Pacific, 1943-1945. He attended Eastern Kentucky State College on the G.I. Bill and graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a member of the Bluegrass Kiwanis Club and was an avid golfer and sports fan. He ended a 33 year career with the Burroughs Corporation (now Unisys) in 1981, retiring as Vice President of Marketing and Development and served as manager of the Eastern Region of the US. During retirement he, along with Charles Peace and other Borroughs Colleagues founded Bunton, Peace, & Associates. Paul was also active in the Transylvania Habitat for Humanity in Brevard, NC, where he served as President in 1996-97 and received the Golden Hammer Award for extraordinary service as a volunteer. He was a long-time member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, Lexington where he served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He was also the chairman of the Finance Committee during the time they were raising the funds to build the church in its current location. Survivors include: his wife of 66 years: Ruth(Garriott) Bunton, a daughter: Paula Bunton of Lexington and a son: John (Linda) Bunton of Nicholasville; Granddaughter, Anna Bunton of Lexington, KY and a brother: James "Harold" (Helen) Bunton of Raleigh, NC. Funeral services will be 11:30 AM, Friday, April 9 at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Lexington, by Craig Loscalzo. Burial will be in the Kirkwood Cemetery, Salvisa. Pallbearers are: Larry Morris, Jim Stevens, Bob Chepak, John Pittman, Charles Hall, Todd Allen. Honorary Bearers are: Paul Davis, Bob Sheidmantel, Doyle Perry, Dal Berry, Charlie Pearce, Jack Garriott, Bill Warner, Walter Hall and Roy Ricketts Visitation will be Friday, April 9 from 10 am until the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Baptist Church or Habitat for Humanity.
