James D. Baxter, III, age 75, Burgin, husband of Mary Rice Woodward Baxter, died Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville, KY. Born September 16, 1934 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late James Durham and Eleanor Lucille (Ison) Baxter Jr... He served in the Army as a first lieutenant. He was a farmer and member of the Burgin Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. Jim was a 1952 graduate of the Burgin High School, 1956 Graduate from the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture, and Member of the Sigma Alfa Epsilon fraternity. He was also on the Hospital Board, a Small Fry Football Coach and member of the Harrodsburg Jaycees. Survivors include: his wife: Mary Rice (Woodward) Baxter, a daughter: Ellen Baxter Ingram and two sons: James S. "Bo" Baxter and Michael W. Baxter all of Harrodsburg Six Grandchildren: Durham Baxter, Brady Baxter, Lee Baxter, Mary Margaret Baxter, John David Ingram and Christy Ingram. Graveside services will be11 AM, Wednesday, September 8 at the Burgin Memorial Garden by Mary Dixon Wittke. Pallbearers are: Gordon Dixon, Tom VanArsdall, Graves Clayton, Greg Womack, Stephen Reed, Granville Sherrow, and Stanley Riney. Honorary Bearers are: Bill Wharton, Skeeter Reed, Louis Daugherty, Jim Stevens, Joe Stevens, Jack Stevens, Robert VanArsdall and Dick Womack, Visitation will be 5-8pm Tuesday, September 7 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Mercer Co Humane Society. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.ransdellfuneralchapel.com
