Obituary of Leroy B. Wessling
Please share a memory of Leroy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leroy B. Wessling, 82, loving husband of LaVerne E. Wessling for 57 years, died on June 1, 2012 after a battle with lung cancer at his home on Ashley Camp Road in Harrodsburg.
He was born in Louisville on March 11, 1930. He served in the Korean War, was co-founder and co-owner of Moby Dick Seafood Restaurants in Louisville, and owner of Chimney Rock Resort & Marina on Herrington Lake in Harrodsburg for many years. After an early retirement, Leroy and LaVerne enjoyed many summers in Mercer County and winters in southwest Florida. Leroy once said I could be rich or I could have a house full of kids, but probably not both - I was lucky and ended up rich with family.
Leroy is survived by his wife LaVerne and seven children - Kevin (Teresa) Wessling of Winchester, Della (John) Myers of Burgin, Scott Wessling of Burgin, Sara Wessling of Alpharetta, GA, Pamela Sharp of Marietta, GA, Rosie Stewart of Burgin, and Daniel (Heather) Wessling of Harrodsburg; fourteen grandchildren- Matthew, Brandon, Phillip, Michelle, Ryan, Kristie, Emily, Joseph, Dustin, Wesley, Travis, Tatum, Paige & Kobie. He is also survived by one brother, Jack (Norma) Wessling of Louisville and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. His beloved granddaughter, Megan Myers and five of his siblings preceded him in death.
A private family service and burial of cremains will be held at Burgin Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to Saint Andrew Catholic Church for Masses, 1125 Danville Rd, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or Heritage Hospice, Inc., 120 Enterprise Dr, Danville KY 40423.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.ransdellfuneralchapel.com.
