Augustine Edward Clarke, II, age 85, Harrodsburg, husband of Sallie Montgomery Clarke, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, October 14, 2012, at the Richmond Place Rehabilitation & Health Center, Lexington, KY. Born November 10, 1926 in Lexington, KY, he was the son of the late Augustine Edward and Lucille "Lucy" (McKinivan) Clarke. He served as a Sgt. in the US Army and was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church. He was an Ashland Oil Agent, was with Clarke, Stewart & Woods Construction Company for 8 years, and was President of Lewis Transport Inc. for 31 years. Gus was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. He had been active in VFW and American Legion for many years, as well as the Jaycee's and Lion's Clubs, and was a lifetime member of the Society of the First Infantry Division. Other survivors include: two daughters, Margaret McKinivan Clarke (Dax) Carmickle of Lexington, KY, and Elizabeth Wathan Clarke of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Augustine Edward "Gus" (Cheryl) Clarke III of Atlanta, GA, and Alexander Kenrick Hughes Clarke of Cham, Switzerland; one sister, Patricia Clarke Keller of Harrodsburg, KY; and three grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 27 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church by Father Danny Schwendeman and Father Noel Zamora. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the St. Andrew Bldg. Fund, 1125 Danville Rd., Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or to the Society of the First Infantry, 1933 Morris Rd., Blue Bell, PA 19422-1422.
