Obituary of James "Doc" Holiday

James "Doc" Holiday, 93, of Harrodsburg, husband of Mary Alice Carey Holiday for 69 years, died peacefully on Friday, December 7, 2012, at the Ephraim Mcdowell Regional Medical Center in Danville surrounded by his family.
Born October 26, 1919 in Washington County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Hansford and Ada Masters Holiday. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. He was the proprietor of many establishments that served the public in the auto and hospitality industry, most notable Harrodsburg's Bluegrass Motors and Pioneer Restaurant which once served Elvis Presley, and the Fuzzy Peach Nightclub in Washington County. He was a skilled car dealer, bus driver, pilot, musician, an avid motorcyclist and an aficionado of fine food, drink, bluegrass music and cheer; and NEVER met a person he didn't like.
He is survived by four sons: Jimmy (Frances) Holiday, Dennis (Shannon) Holiday, Jerry Holiday, and Billy (Barbara Robinson) Holiday all of Harrodsburg. 6 grandchildren, John William (Donna) Holiday of Harrodsburg; Laila (Brian Stine) Holiday of Willisburg; Crystal Nicole Holiday of Shelbyville, Charles Brandon Holiday of Lexington; Thomas Scott (Christine) Holiday of Lawrenceburg; James Tyson Holiday of Harrodsburg, 6 great-grand children: Benjamin Wilson Holiday of Louisville, William Harlan Holiday of Harrodsburg, Carey Layne Elliott, Caleb Lee Elliott, Olivia Reagan Stine of Willisburg; Charles Gavin Holiday, Kyler Zane Combs of Lexington, and Ella Mavourneen Sallee of Jackson, Tennessee, and Karlee Teegan Holiday of Lawrenceburg, 6 step grandchildren and 8 step great grand children. Surviving cousins Jim and Joyce Powell of Mackville, Sue and Jack Pearson of Harrodsburg, and Joyce Keuhr of Louisville.
Visitation will be Monday, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held by Bro. Curtis Sims at 11 AM Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the Peters Cemetery, Mackville, Kentucky.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Billy Gilvin, Don Billy Yates, Jimmy Keller, Curtis Sims, Vernon McGuire, Darren Ransdell, JL Devine and Tony Royalty.
The family requests memorial donations be given to the charity of one's choice.
