Obituary of Guilford C Waggener

Guilford C. Waggener, age 87, Burgin, widower of Nancy Mayo Waggoner, died Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington, KY.
Born April 5, 1925 in Burgin, he was the son of the late William Howard and Mary Ruth Green Waggoner. He Navy veteran of World War II, was a retired farmer and member of the Burgin Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Clerk. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville where he played basketball four years. Mr. Waggener was a member of Gideons International, past president of the Burgin Lions Club, Past President of the Mercer County Farm Bureau, served on the Burgin School Board for 28 years, and served on the Mercer County Library and Fire Boards for several years.
Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Anna (Paul) Welch of Burgin, Jeanette (Steve) Peyton of Harrodsburg, and Ruth Elizabeth (Jeff) Loane of Burgin; one son, William Howard (Lisa) Waggener II, of Burgin; one sister, Frances (Othniel) Alsop of Louisiana; and one brother: Bill (Peggy) Waggener of Burgin; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Waggener.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Burgin Baptist Church by Rev. Carl McCray. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, with military honors.
Pallbearers are: Justin Welch, Jason Peyton, Ray Welch, Ryan Welch, Daniel Loane, Joshua Waggoner, Ericka Waggener, Levi French, and Lane French. Honorary bearers: Jill Bryant, Tonya Hinkle, Gloria Welch, Kelly Peyton, Deacons Of Burgin Baptist Church and Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be Monday, December 17, 2012, from 5 - 8 PM at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, and at the Church after 9:00 AM Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Gideons International, Hospice of the Bluegrass or Burgin Baptist Church.
