ANDREW DEVINE WILLIAMS
Andrew Andy Devine Williams, 83, Dixie Manor, Harrodsburg, husband of Anne Shannon McClellan Williams, died suddenly Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at his home.
Born April 5, 1920 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late James Price and Bess Devine Williams.
He was a 1938 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, attended Transylvania College, the University of Kentucky and Centre College. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in October of 1941 where he served in North Africa and Italy from 1942 until 1945. He re-enlisted in 1945 and retired from the US Air Force in 1965 as Chief Warrant Officer assigned to Air Weather Service as a forecaster. Other assignments included tours of duty in Panama, Greenland, Germany as well as numerous duty stations in the continental United States. Two years were spent in the Severe Weather Center in Kansas City, Missouri as a tornado forecaster. He was a Professional Member of the American Meteorological Society. After retirement from the US Air Force, he became an agent with the Metropolitan Insurance Company for fifteen years. He was the Health Environmentalist for the County Health Departments in Mercer and Lincoln Counties for eight years, helped to establish the Emergency Management Office for Mercer County and served on the Ethics and Zoning and Planning Commissions. He was a fifty year member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge having served as Master twice, was a member of the Oleika Shrine and York Rite Bodies. He also served as a past member of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club for twenty-five years having served as President and Secretary-Treasurer. He was a life-long member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he was an Elder Emeritus.
Survivors besides his wife include a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, March 27th at the Harrodsburg Christian Church by Rev. Don Chase and Father Joe Muench. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers are Greg McClellan, John McClellan, Dr. Chris McClellan, Stoney McGowan and Rick Davis. Honorary bearers are Dr. Jack Hankla, David Taylor, Dr. Nick Dedman, Jack Springate, and David Patterson.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm Friday and after 7:30 am Saturday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. The body will be taken to the Church at 12:00 noon to remain until the hour of service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Harrodsburg Christian Church, 305 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY.
