Dewitt Sims, age 96, Harrodsburg, husband of Eva May Lewis Sims, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at Signature Health Care in Harrodsburg.
Born July 6, 1920 in Mercer Co., he was son of the late Claude T. and Joanna Brown Sims. Dewitt served in the US Navy during WWII, and was retired from Baker Perkins in Saginaw, Michigan in 1982 where he worked as an engineering lab supervisor. He was an experienced pilot who loved to fly and was an avid motorcyclist. He enjoyed being a HAM radio operator with the call sign WB8KFU and square dancing with his wife. He also loved to tinker and invent things and held several patents. Dewitt was a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church.
Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Eva Sims, daughter Gayle (Doug) Perry of Ocala, Florida, and step daughter, Charlotte St. Clair of Waterford, Michigan. He was preceded in death two brothers, Sherman and Delmar Sims, a sister, Zelma McGinnis and stepson Roy Eskridge.
Funeral services 1 PM Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, by Pastor Hilary Claypool. Burial will follow with military rites I the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation will be 11am Saturday until the hour of service.
Memorials are suggested to Fellowship Baptist Church, 481 Cornishville St. Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or the Alzheimer's Association, 465 E. High St. Lexington, KY 40507.
