Jackie "Jack" C. Springate, 72, Harrodsburg, KY, husband of Susan Trisler Springate of 47 years, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, September 11, 2016, at his home.
Born December 25, 1943, in Mercer Co., KY, he was the son of the late Paul and Laura (Patterson) Springate. Jack was a 1961 graduate of Mercer Co. High, and later graduated from the United State Army Armor School, he was a retired supervisor for the Harrodsburg Post Office, having served with the Postal Service for 37 years. He was a Retired Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, was a former commander of the Harrodsburg Army Reserves, was a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM, was a member of the the Oleika Shrine Temple, was a former member and Past President of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club, was a former board member and past chair of Cardinal Meadows. Jack helped establish Big Brothers and Big Sister of Mercer Co. and served as a Harrodsburg City Commisioner from 1994 until 2010. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, the HBC Glad Hand SS Class, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Other survivors include: Leigh (Jamie) Dunn of Harrodsburg, KY and Loren (Chris) Bostick of Danville, KY; one sister, Judy (R.C.) Sanders of Palm Coast, FL; one sister-in-law, Helen Jo (David) Shewmaker of Springfield, KY; five grandchildren, Sara & Will Dunn, Cannon, Beau, & Mackenzie Bostick; his special Boston Terrier, Izzy.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Friday, September 16, 2016, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by John David Lane and Wayne Spivey. Visitation will be 5 - 8 PM Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Lonnie Campbell, Barry Currens, Don Engler, Glenn Hurst, Charlie Ison, Bill Kelsey, Ernie Kelty, Ronnie Long, Bernie McGlone, Tony Pankey, John Wayne Peavler, Lloyd Pickett, Skeeter Reed, Bobby Thompson, and members of the Glad Hand SS Class.
Memorials are suggested to: Harrodsburg Baptist Church, 312 S. Main, Harrodsburg, KY 40330; Shriners Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Rd, Lexington, KY 40502; Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422; or Mercer Co. Animal Shelter, 896 Moberly Rd, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
