DR. EVANS TAYLOR MOSELEY
Dr. Evans Taylor Moseley departed this life on August 3 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, Kentucky after a short illness. He was born July 16, 1911 in Livermore, Kentucky, the son of Woodford Evans Moseley and Sallie Freeman Moseley. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Woodford Tanner Moseley and his first wife Emma Finch Moseley. His early education was in the Livermore and Greenville, Kentucky Schools. His college and post graduate work was at Bethel College, Russellville, KY, Carson-Newman Baptist College, Jefferson City, Tennessee and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky.
After graduation from the seminary, he married Emma Lee Finch of Columbia, Tennessee. In 1940 he enlisted in the Army and was called to active duty on January 1, 1941. Immediately after Pearl Harbor he was sent from Fort Sill, OK to Hickam Field, Hawaii leaving behind a young wife and a four months old son.
During World War II he served as Chaplain for the 25th Artillery, known as The Tropic Lightning Division. His division took part in the campaigns of Guadalcanal, New Caledonia, and the invasion of the Philippines. He remained active in the Army Reserve until he retired with the rank of Colonel.
He has served as pastor of Baptist Churches in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, Rogersville, Tennessee, Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and Ponca City, Oklahoma. He joined the faculty of Oklahoma Baptist University in 1964 and served a term as President of the University. After retiring from Okalahoma Baptist University, he joined the faculty of Ponca Military Academy and was interim pastor at Longwood Baptist Church, Sunset Baptist Church and the mission for the Ponca Indians in Kay County, OK. He also served on the Boards of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and the Golden Gate Seminary in San Francisco, California. He was a member of several veterans organizations and a number of civic clubs.
On May 2, 1998, he married Frances Board Keightley and moved to Harrodsburg, Kentucky. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William Finch Moseley, of The Woodlands, Texas and Thomas Evans Moseley of Alton, IL; three grandchildren, Keith Moseley of Louisville, Colorado, Jennifer Moseley of Hamden Connecticut, and Ross Moseley of The Woodlands, Texas; one great granddaughter, Emma May Moseley of Louisville, Colorado and one step-daughter, Julie Gist Keightley of Louisville, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 7th with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating, assisted by Father Joseph Muench. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm. Pallbearers will be Deacons of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. The family requests memorial gifts to charity rather than flowers. The Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
