Obituary of William A. Martin

William A. "Bill" Martin, 78, Harrodsburg, KY, husband of Shirley Westerfield Martin, died Thursday, February 14, 2019, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

 

Born May 14, 1940, in Huntington, WV, he was the son of the late H. Clayton and Ila Mae (Rankin) Martin. He was a retired Journalist and Public Relations Director for Norfolk Southern Railroad, and enjoyed retirement as a Greeter at Keeneland Racecourse. William received his BA in Journalism from the Univ. of KY and his Master's Degree from Hollins College. He authored "Cattails and Curveballs" about the history of the Bluegrass Baseball League in Mercer county.

 

Other survivors include: two sons, Andrew Martin of Mobile, AL and William W. (Kimberly) Martin of Harrodsburg;  one sister, Mary Anne Loy of Columbia, KY; one brother, James Martin of Lexington; he also has two grandchildren, Logan Westerfield Martin and Sianna Mae Falk. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and John Martin.

 

Funeral services will be 1 PM Mon., Feb 18, 2019, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Jill Cutler. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Perryville, KY.  Visitation will be 5-7 PM Sunday, Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, KY.

 

Pallbearers are Tim Darland, Jessica Furner, Matthew Loy, Anne C. Martin, Logan Martin, and Chip Thomas.
