Obituary of Charles Louis Fallis

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Louis Fallis, 91, of Salem, Va., was called to heaven by his Lord on Friday, May 17, 2019.

Born and raised on a farm near Harrodsburg, his many diverse accomplishments included rising to Postal Service senior management, where he was responsible for multi-billion-dollar budgets and all postal operations in seven states and Washington D.C.; then both Treasurer and President of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).  He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.  In 2004 he was awarded the highest honor of his native state of Kentucky, the title of Kentucky Colonel, for his contributions through NARFE to Alzheimer’s research.  In his 13 years in federal law enforcement as a postal inspector, he held the inspection service’s Washington D.C. arrest record.  In his early and middle 20s he was a successful singer and guitarist with his own radio show.  Also, in his 20s he earned his pilot’s license and served as the Vice President of the Kentucky Stock Car Racing Association.  He was a true patriot and a devoted Christian, an unpretentious man of profound wisdom, intellect, integrity and honor, an unwavering champion for the care of the disabled, and a beloved family man.  We shall ever miss him.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lee Fallis and Ruth Lee Kincaid Fallis; his brothers Elbert and Glen, his sister Dixie, and his wife and inspiration of 62 years, Betty Marie Sizemore Fallis, who made her heavenly journey in 2015.  He is survived by his son, Steven; his daughters, Jane, Beth and Susan; his brothers, Ray and Norman of Harrodsburg; and his sister Ruth.

A memorial service for both Charles and Betty will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, June 22nd, at Ransdell’s Funeral Chapel, 345 East Lexington Street, Harrodsburg, Ky., with a visitation at Ransdell’s from 5:00 to 8:00 the day before.
