Obituary of Naomi S. Christian

Naomi S. Christian, 88, Danville, KY, widow of Claude O. Christian, after 56 years, died Thursday at the Harrodsburg Health & Rehabilitation, Harrodsburg, KY. Born September 8,1931, in Blairs Mill, KY, she was the daughter of the late Bert and the late Victoria (Fannin) Sergent.
Naomi graduated from the University of KY in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. In 1973, she graduated from Morehead State University with a Masters in Education.
She was a home economist for KY Power Company in Pikeville, taught home economics and was an extension home economist in Johnson County. She was an Earth, Space & Science teacher at Ashland Independent. Coordinator of continuing education/community service for the University of KY at Ashland Community College. She retired from the University of KY in 1992.
President of Northeast North Alumni Chapter; named Ashland Community College outstanding woman who made significant contribution to industry in an executive professional role; Salvation Army Advisory Board for 12 years, publicity chairman for annual Tri-State computer show; president of Northeast Home Economics Association, awarded outstanding Northeast Science Teacher. Member of Southern Hills Garden Club and Ashland Pilot Club. Past member of Paintsville and Unity Baptist churches and was a former Sunday school teacher, currently a member of the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church in Danville, KY. UK Fellow; Life member of the Agriculture Alumni Association and UK Alumni Association.. Served on UK state board, membership, extension, research & teaching awards committees and Loved UK Basketball.
Naomi is survived by: two daughters: Debbie (Tony) Lawson of Harrodsburg, KY and Susan Christian of Austin, TX, granddaughter, Amber Wiley; great granddaughter, Kamden Wiley; many nieces & nephews. Special thanks to Rita Johnson (care giver), McDowell Place, Ephraim McDowell Hospital, Harrodsburg Health Care and Rehabilitation for her care.
Visitation 1 PM Monday, Jan. 6, 2020 with funeral service 3 pm Monday, Ransdell Funeral Chapel by David Easterling. Graveside services will be in the Brown Cemetery, Morehead, Tuesday at 2 pm.
Memorials suggested to Heritage Hospice or McDowell Place, Danville, KY.
