I worked with Bob at IBM Owego and IBM Huntsville where he reported to me. He was a very smart engineer with his background in chemistry and was a great problem solver. In Owego I had a special order Plymouth Barracuda and I think at that time Bob may have had a Mustang or Camaro and I would lay in wait for him at the entrance and then we would road race up to the plant which was on 1600 acres. Later in Huntsville he really got into serious racing and had a Camaro I think a 1969 which he race prepared himself and volunteers sometimes helped with preparation so the car had excellent NASA quality wiring and mechanical preparation. How he worked so many hours and did his IMSA racing was amazing. He was nationally known and had a special phone number at GM for race parts when GM allegedly was out of racing. Most of all I remember how good he was with my children and long after we went our separate ways when Huntsville "downsized" we kept in touch and my children always talked about him fondly. Bob loved his family and farm in KY and when we visited he an Kathy were always so gracious and it the memories of those visits are valued. My "family" over the years has been a very few IBMers I worked with and with Bob's passing I have lost a brother. Bob Munroe

I worked with Bob in IBM Owego in the mid to late 1960s, and have fond memories of talking to Bob, hearing entertaining stories of his growing up in a rural area, and working with Bob on materials engineering matters. I will miss him, please accept my condolences, Bob and his family will be in my prayers.

I am sorry to learn of Bob Christiansen’s death. I had not kept up with him since my retirement from IBM in 1988, however, he and I did work on various programs at IBM Owego, NY and Huntsville, AL. Bob was always easy to work with and brought a wealth of knowledge to the task at hand. I will keep his family in my prayers/Bob Skelding
