Ann N."Sandy" Ballard, 82, Harrodsburg, KY, widow of Dr. Ralph T. Ballard, M.D. died Monday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. Born January 30,1938, in Durham, NC, to the late Samuel Huston and the late Grayce (Peele) Northcross. Sandy was a Teacher for both the Harrodsburg & Mercer School Systems. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, and the Harrodsburg Historical Society. She served on the Mercer County School Board and Humane Society Board, and was a 4-H Leader and Girl Scout Leader as well as volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Sandy is survived by: three daughters: Anne W. Ballard of Harrodsburg, KY, Julia B. Rice of Georgetown, KY and Katherine (Lt. Col. Tom, USA Retired) Davenport of Fredricksburg, VA, and three sons: Col. Robert A. (Cindy) Ballard, USMC Retired of Leonardtown , MD, Major Brian T. (Christina) Ballard, USMC Retired of Stafford, VA and Major Christopher L. (Marla) Ballard, USA Ranger Retired of Leonardtown, MD, one sister: Cathryn Mamalis of Chicago, IL and thirteen grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday; February 28 from noon-2pm at Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, KY. Funeral service will follow at 2 pm, conducted by: Col. Robert A. Ballard, USMC Retired. The family request memorial donations be sent to: Mercer County Animal Shelter, 896 Moberly Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or the Mercer County Public Library, 109 W. Lexington St. Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
