Obituary of J. B. Claunch

John Burton Claunch, 84, Salvisa, widower of Anna Jean Sanders Claunch, died Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at his home. Born March 19, 1936, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late John D. and Flossie (Durr) Claunch.
J. B. was a Retired KY State Highway Dept. Supervisor, a Mercer Co. Magistrate (1999-2014), a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, Past Chief - Terrapin-Dugginsville Fire Dept., a member of the Salvisa Ruritan Club, St. John's Masonic Lodge # 125 and former member of Daviess Chapter #29. He was also a former board member of the Mercer Co. Chapter of The American Red Cross, a member of the Mercer Co. Fire Protection District, Past President of Central KY Fire Fighters Assoc., the Young at Heart Club, a Gideon, longtime member of the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Assoc., a KY Colonel, and was a Democratic Hall of Fame Inductee. J.B. was an avid UK fan as well.
Survivors include: two sons, Kevin (Donna) Claunch and Gerald (Trish) Claunch both of Mercer Co.; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Montie and Allen Dale Claunch, three brothers, Raymond, Marvin, and Earl Claunch, and several half siblings.
Funeral services be 1 PM, Friday, June 12, 2020, at the Hopewell Baptist Church by Doug Wesley, Lewis Walter, and Barry Harmon. Burial with Fireman's Honors will follow in Hopewell Baptist Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation will be 5 - 8 PM Thursday, Hopewell Baptist Church. Masonic Services will be held 7:30 PM Thursday.
Pallbearers: Jarrod Stratton, Kevin Izaiah Claunch, Timothy Hill, Jeremy Claunch, Landan Claunch, Nic Dubriwny. Honorary bearers: Hayden Claunch, Kinsley Claunch, Lyla Dubriwny, Eva Dubriwny, Noah Clem, Deakin Hill, Elyn Hill, Legend Stratton, Phoenix Claunch, and Honor Price Stratton, as well as members of the Terrapin Fire Dept..
