Obituary of Doug Greenburg

Douglas Lloyd Greenburg, 73, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, husband of Adele Dean Greenburg, passed away from complications of lymphoma at home in the company of his family who loved him deeply on October 26, 2020. He was born in Memphis, TN on October 30, 1946 to the late Shirley Stevens Greenburg and Louis H. Greenburg. He was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School (class of 1964), Eastern Kentucky University, and University of Kentucky Law School. He was a devoted husband to Adele Dean Greenburg for 49 years.
Doug was a dedicated public servant. He practiced law his entire career in Harrodsburg including 29 years as the Mercer County Attorney, and after a brief retirement served as the Harrodsburg City Attorney for 7 years. Doug was a strong advocate for protecting and expanding healthcare in Mercer County and served on the Board of Directors at Haggin Memorial Hospital, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, and Heritage Hospice. He volunteered as the legal representative for Habitat for Humanity of Mercer County for many years. After marrying Adele, Doug became a member and servant leader of Harrodsburg Christian Church. He cherished the friendships and service opportunities afforded through decades of membership in Rotary International. Doug was an avid tennis player and introduced the sport to many. He was a nature enthusiast and cherished any chance to plant a tree. His homemade bluebird houses can be found on fence posts throughout Mercer County. He will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, generosity of time and resources, gentle smile, sage advice, patience and tolerance.
Survivors include: his wife, Adele Dean Greenburg; his daughter, Esther (Gil) Hayslett; his son, David Lloyd Greenburg (Rebecca Ward), of Whispering Pines, NC; his sister, Myra Leigh Greenburg, of Cincinnati, OH; his brother, Darryl Glenn Greenburg, of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Matheus Luiz Greenburg, Lauren Marie Hayslett, John Christopher Hayslett, Lucy Katherine Greenburg, and Lily Kailani Greenburg.
A memorial service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the Harrodsburg Christian Church, by Clay Stevens. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation will be 4-8 PM, Friday, and after 1 PM, Saturday, at the Harrodsburg Christian Church.
Arrangements by Ransdell Funeral Chapel, where expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.ransdellfuneralchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to Harrodsburg Christian Church, 305 S. Main St., Harrodsburg, KY, or to Heritage Hospice Center, 120 Enterprise Dr., Danville, KY 40422.
