Nelson "Cleo" Sanders, 86, beloved husband of Joyce Cornelius Sanders, died Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at his home in Harrodsburg. Born June 28, 1934, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Marshall Cooke Sanders and Beatrice (Black) Sanders McCroskey. Cleo graduated from the Harrodsburg High School in 1954 and then joined the U.S. Army where he served in France and Lebanon. Upon returning from his service, Cleo took a position with Norfolk Southern Railway and retired after 36 years. Cleo loved the outdoors and most things involved with it. He loved fishing, hunting and ball games. In addition to his wife of 63 years, Cleo is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He lost his son; Daniel Marshall Sanders to leukemia in 1980. He was also preceded in death by a brother; Donnie McCroskey and three sisters; Kathryn Peavler, Jean Wiley and Jo Ann Winston. Visitation will be 11 am - 1:30 pm Friday at the Harrodsburg Community Church, 1501 Danville Road, Harrodsburg. The church asked if visitors would use the south or west entrances. Funeral services, conducted by Terry Morrison will be at 1:30 pm, also at the church. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, KY.
