Obituary of Wesley Moore

Dr. Wesley Eugene Moore, 93, peacefully passed on to Heaven on May 16, 2021. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, KY, on Saturday, May 22, 2021, following a visitation from 1 - 3 PM.
Wesley was born in Liberty, Missouri, to Joe and Lola Moore on March 3, 1928. He was a graduate of Liberty High School, Liberty, MO, going on to earn a degree in Physics from William Jewell College, Liberty, MO, in 1949; continuing on to grad school at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, obtaining master degrees on both Physics and Mathematics in 1953 with thesis on Experimental Investigation of Beta-Particle Backscattering Phenomena. He then obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Pittsburgh, Pitts, PA, in 1959. Dr. Moore was employed by Knolls Atomic Power Lab (KAPL) operating for the United States Department of Energy (GE) for 40 years from 1959-1999. He had numerous accomplishments recognized internationally and personally by the Admiral of the US Navy. Receiving four patents, Wesley became Senior Physicist obtaining awards of excellence for Advanced Thermal/Hydraulic Development and his work in silencing the mechanics of submarines for the US Navy.
Wesley enjoyed many activities outside the lab, such as sailing, hiking, skiing, gardening and traveling, exploring the US and many countries overseas. He like nothing more than sharing time with family and friends at various concerts, ballets, operas, theaters and museums.
Wesley is survived by four children, daughter Kathryn Bascom (Ray Bascom) of Harrodsburg, KY; son Richard Moore (Julie Moore) of Clifton Park, NY; son Randy Moore (Natalie Swider) of Columbus, OH; daughter Tricia Montgomery (Robert Montgomery) of Milford, OH. He is also survived by sister Lucille Johnson (Moore) of Tacoma, WA, son-in-law Edouard Rietmann (Luz Elena Escarria) of Miami, FL, Christine Rietmann (Daniel Epstein), Obfelden, Switzerland, Dominique Rietmann (Volker Weiss), Villingen, Germany; sixteen grandchildren and 10.5 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind very dear friend, Annette Kelly, and his cat, Holly. Wesley is preceded in death by Yvonne Moore (Willems), wife; Blanca Moore (Rietmann), wife; sister Louise Timson, and parents, Joe and Lola Moore.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Outdoor Beautification Fund at Richmond Place, Attn. Molly, 3501 Rio Dosa Dr., Lexington, KY 40509. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the loving staff and friends at Richmond Place for making his final years on this Earth so beautiful and to the staff at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington, KY for making us feel so cared for.
