Obituary of Dorothy Nichols

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Pearl Anderson Nichols, age 92, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend moved to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Born in Fayette County, Kentucky, on February 24, 1929, she was a daughter of W.R. and Minnie Anderson. Her large, close-knit family relocated to Mercer County. While a cheerleader at McAfee High School Dorothy met Charles W. Nichols. The two experienced love at first sight, and were married July 12, 1946, and remained the love of each other’s lives. From childhood Dorothy faithfully attended church as long as health permitted; she was a member of Fox Creek Christian Church. Her beautiful Christian life was exemplified through her kind, caring, positive and humble spirit as she put needs of others before her own. She was known for her sweet smile, and her laughter was contagious. For many years she was a member of New Fairview Homemakers Club. Her many skills like sewing, basket-weaving, and raising beautiful flowers and vegetables were facets of her homemaker’s heart. Her special cookies, banana croquettes and lime pickles were family favorites(as well as hand-made sock monkeys created for grandchildren). She deeply enjoyed fishing, mowing the lawn, taking trips, family gatherings and visits with friends. She was an enthusiastic UK basketball fan. Dorothy loved Bluegrass music, especially favoring old hymns which never left her memory. Because she adamantly took snapshots, special memories were captured for her family. In later years feeding birds, working puzzles and word searches were favorite hobbies. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, five brothers-- Garnett, Carl, Marion, Gene and Roy Anderson; two sisters—Bonnie Poulter and Irene Anderson; and a son-in-law, Larry Basham. Remaining to honor her memory and legacy are her four children—Mary Louise (Mike) Majors, Eddie (Christine) Nichols, Brenda (Jeff) Riley, and Barbara Basham; a brother, Burton Cape Anderson; grandchildren—Victoria Hope, Faith, Nathan, Chuck, Allen, Cassie, Rachel, Emily, Magen, and Jenna; great-grandchildren—Natalie, Maddie, Will, Lizzie, Zach, Noah, Daniel, Sydney, Sadie, Lydia Pearl, Brylee, Ellason, Oaklen, and Ada; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Sat., June 12, 2021, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, by Don Wells. Visitation will be Friday, June 11, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.
