Obituary of Evelyn Major

Evelyn Elsie Buckley Major, 92, died August 8,2021, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital with her children by her side. Evelyn was born in Garrard County, KY to Thomas Edward and Bertha Frances (Pryor) Buckley on March 13, 1929. She went to Buena Vista School and Burgin High School. She always had tales to describe growing up on the farm, fun times with the family and school friends. She was a wonderful, loving mother with a kind and gentle spirit, always warm-hearted and thoughtful towards others. She was a dedicated employee before retirement in 1990. She was an avid seamstress. Sewing, quilting, crocheting, and tatting were passions. Her flower beds were beautiful, and her cooking was delicious. She enjoyed traveling. Evelyn is survived by her children Stephany Jane Rives (Roger) of Port Charlotte, FL; Allen Keith Lanham of Charleston, IL; and Jennifer Jay Belt (Glenn) of Newburgh, IN. Grandchildren are Laura Rives Davis (Kyle) of Plainfield, IN, Bradley Kent Rives (Alexandra) of Indiana, PA, Matthew Glenn Belt of Chicago, IL, and Elizabeth Ashton Belt of Rushville, IN. Great-grandchildren are Ross Kent Davis of Plainfield, IN and Amelia Evelyn Rives and Nora Kathryn Rives, both of Indiana, PA. Additionally, several nieces and nephews, the children of her sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: Gladys Ann Stine, Roy Thomas Buckley, Cecil W. Buckley, Glenna Marie Sanders, Delberta Francis Buckley, and Mary Josephine McKinney; husbands, J.C. Lanham and Clyde Edward Major. Funeral services will be 3:30 PM, Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg, KY with Reverend Joe Smith of Shakertown Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation will be 1:00 PM Thursday until the hour of service at Randsdell’s.
