Ray was a dear friend and we had many good times working together. This guy could make me laugh with just a look. We shared a shop office at FMC. I would bring my lunch along with an apple and leave it on my desk. When I returned for lunch, I picked up that big red apple only to find half of it already eaten. Of course he would deny that he did it all the while laughing. I would leave a bag of cheetos from vending machine and returned to a bag of cheetos crushed. And of course he would deny he was the culprit.
Ray was the Romeo of FMC and as soon as he discovered a new girl had been hired-he would have her address by the end of the day. One afternoon, the President of Manufacturing was taking a tour with a group of supervisors. I had just had a piece of 3 inch steel cut from a plate to have it checked by QA. The tour was heading our way and the President was kicking boxes of tapes and throwing things in work stations all the while yelling at the supervisors. He stopped and paused at the table outside our office where the hot hunk of 3 inch steel was. Ray and I looked at each other and I asked if we should say anything. He said "Why he is the President, he knows everything. AND then he picked up the 3 inch hot steel and immediately threw it down. I looked at Ray and he said "sure did not take him long to inspect that"! Ray was such a quick wit. The tour continued without a word to us. We laughed. Good end to a hard day at FMC. I have so many memories of my dear friend I would have to write a chapter in the 'Life of Ray Beasley'. Keep them laughing up there Ray. You will be MISSED down here. Your friend Marshy!!
