Obituary of David Ray Sims

David Ray Sims, 93, Burgin, KY, widower of; Dottie Burchell Sims, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at his home. Born November 16, 1928, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Nathan and Rettie (Satterly) Sims. David retired from Kentucky Utilities after 35 years, he started in operations for several years and was promoted to Chief Mechanic. He was a Navy Petty Officer 3rd class during the Korean War, a member of the Burgin Baptist Church where he was Chairman of Ushers for many years; he was also a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 where he was 32nd Degree Mason. Also a member of the Scottish Rites, Oleika Shrine Temple, Royal order of Jesters, The 39 Club, Danville Wilderness Shrine Club, American Legion, KY Colonel, Former Burgin School Board Member and Burgin Lions Club member.
Survivors include: two daughters: Lou Anne S. (Tom) Ison of Lexington, and Cheryl S. Currens of Harrodsburg; he also has three granddaughters Laura Lee Currens of Harrodsburg, Kasey Currens of Pennsylvania and Lyndsey (Jason) Brinegar of Lexington; Great Grandchildren, Dylyn, Gabi, & Braxton Brinegar and Jada & Harlee Satterly; Special Caregivers, Carolyn Arnold, Shari Gash, Jan Brown and Cindy Kelly. David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years Dottie Burchell Sims, brother: Nathan Sims Jr., sister: Virginia Sims Russell and great grandson: Sawyer Currens.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 9, 2022, 11AM until 2 PM, at the Burgin Baptist Church, with Masonic Rites beginning at 2 PM immediately followed by Funeral Services. Carl McCray, Larry Holbrook and Jack Coleman will be officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Burgin Memorial Garden.
Pallbearers will be: Tom Ison, Jason Brinegar, Dylyn Brinegar, Braxton Brinegar, Jack Coleman, Herman Jasper and Lynn Russell. Honorary Bearers will be: Laura Lee Currens, Lyndsey Brinegar, Kasey Satterly and Gabi Brinegar, Members of the Oleika Shrine Temple, Royal Orders of Jesters and the Danville Wilderness Shrine Club.
