Martha Jane Phillips Moore, 82, died peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 18th, 2022. She was preceded in death 2 years ago by her beloved husband Tebbs Shewmaker Moore after a long and loving marriage of 57 years. Martha Jane was born November 30th, 1939, to the late William Hartford Phillips and Marie Cotton Phillips in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. She attended Harrodsburg Elementary and High School. Martha Jane graduated from the University of Kentucky with a History degree and served as Treasurer of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. She leaves behind her son, James Hartford Moore (Shauna) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Naples, Florida; her daughter, Elizabeth Anne Moore Hammelrath (Steve) of Cincinnati, Ohio; her older brother William Thomas Phillips (Jane) of Lexington, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, William Kiser Moore, Margret Matheny Moore, Anna Marie Hammelrath and Hans Young Hammelrath; and her niece Emily Phillips Gaunce and husband Brent of Carlisle, Kentucky; cousins, Caren Copeland (Greg) York, High Point, NC, James Walton Copeland, Atlanta, GA. She is mourned by her sisters- in- law, Marie Moore Copeland and her husband Nelson of Lexington, Kentucky, Jamie Moore VanArsdall of Anacortes, Washington, and Dixie Moore of Cincinnati. Martha Jane’s life was filled with connections, family, and faith. She and Tebbs started their married life in their hometown of Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Martha was always supportive of Tebbs’ law practice that he joined with her father W.H. Phillips and his many years of service as an officer in the Kentucky National Guard. She frequently accompanied Tebbs to his meetings and events and greeted everyone with a smile. For many years after her children were older, she worked in Tebbs’ laws office particularly during tax season. She was a gracious and warm hostess enjoying entertaining their friends and hosting family dinners at their home on the Warwick Pike. She was a skilled tennis player and enjoyed golf in her later years. She was an avid reader, a faithful member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and a longtime supporter of the Harrodsburg Historical Society. Martha and Tebbs retired to Naples Florida in the winters and spent their summers in Cincinnati, Ohio to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She was always surrounded by a wonderful group of friends from Harrodsburg KY,the Danville KY Country Club, or the Stonebridge Country Club in Naples, Fl. Her family and friends will miss her dearly. Visitation will be at 11:00 am at the Harrodsburg Christian Church on Friday, September 23, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm led by Micki McHugh. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, KY. Pallbearers are: Will Hammelrath, Kevin Hannah, Brent Gaunce, Milward Dedman, Greg Souder, and Scott Moseley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Harrodsburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 305 South Main Street, Harrodsburg Kentucky 40330, harrodsburgchristian .org, or The Alzheimer’s Foundation, alzfdn.org.
