James Price “Jim” Royalty, 80, Harrodsburg, KY, widower of Polly Cherry Royalty passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Baptist Health, Lexington. Born May 27, 1942, in Lexington, he was the son of the late Gilbert Marshall and Cora V. (Martin) Royalty. Jim graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and obtained his MBA from the University of Virginia. He was the owner and operator of Royalty & Keightley Lumber Company for many years. Jim was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he was active in the choir, member and past president of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club, former director of the Mercer County Public Library, and a member of the Kentucky Lumber Dealers Association. Jim and his wife of 56 years, Polly, lived in Panama City Beach, Florida for several years where they enjoyed the warm weather and vast dining options. Jim was also an avid reader and was very competitive, having been involved in many speech competitions in his early years and intense trivia contests at Dominion Senior Living in Richmond, Ky more recently.
Survivors include: one daughter: Anne Royalty (Jedaiah) Lane of Richmond, KY and one son: James P. “Jay” (Stacy) Royalty, Jr. of Collierville, TN; two sisters: Jane Marshall Royalty Gilbert and Vivian Gayle Royalty McNatton; also three grandchildren, James P. “Trey” Royalty, III, Anna Katherine “Katie” Royalty and Jedaiah Michael “Jed” Lane, Jr.
A gathering of friends and family will be 12 noon - 2 PM Saturday; February 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, KY.
A private service will be held following the visitation at 230p ET at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
The family request that memorial donations be made to Mercer County Public Library.
