Charles Johnstone, 84, died Sunday, May 14, 2023, in Danville, KY. Born August 18, 1938, in Rutherford, TN, he was the son of the late Haywood and Frances Johnston. Charles was a graduate of Rutherford High School in 1957 and was an insurance salesman and stock broker for the majority of his career. Upon retirement he farmed for 30 years. Charles was also a member of Mt. Pleasant Church and was a die-hard University of Kentucky basketball fan. Survivors include: his wife, Ernestine Johnstone, Harrodsburg; a son, Sonny (Ellen) Johnstone, Charleston, WV; a daughter, Beth Johnstone Markham, Kill Devil Hills, NC; a step-son, Jeff Scott, Danville, KY; a step-daughter, Jenny Scott and her husband Brian Kindel, Richmond, KY; four grandchildren, Chase Markham, Cameron Johnstone, Charlie Johnstone, and Jack Johnstone; three step-grandchildren, Brandon Scott, Morgan Kindel, and Sophie Kindel. Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Stratton Johnstone, and a daughter, Robin Johnstone. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM, Sat., June 3, 2023, at the Mt. Pleasant Church, 446 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Harrodsburg, KY 40330. The family suggest that memorials be made to the Dare County Special Olympics honoring those who have been diagnosed with Apraxia of speech, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954 www.dare@sonc.net.
