Wayne was our brother-in-law and brother in Christ. He was good at everything he did and he knew something about everything. And if our family needed anything, he was always willing to help. We saw a humble, heartbroken man when our sister died. We saw him fight physical pain in a courageous way. It broke our hearts when he died because he still had so much to give to his church and to his family. The last words I heard him say were, "God can do great things!" Rest in Peace, Wayne. Your family loves you! We always have. We always will.

Wayne (no one I knew called him Corbett) and I were high school friends. We both have belonged to the Harrodsburg Babtist church and I know my parents who attended, both thought highly of him. I was never athletically inclined, so we did not share tennis, but we both shared a love of plinking. Every few weekends we would take our .22s out to shoot cans and a quite a few bottles which he would save up from his after school job when we were high school classmates. (There is probably still a spot near town with enough destroyed glass bottles to build a greenhouse). We'd keep score on who hit the most.
At one point we had bought walkie talkies so we could chat with each other across town (before cell phones existed) and not tie up our parents one home phone. Without asking me, he got a cord to fit the dc adapter socket , put a plug on it and plugged it into a 110 ac socket. Yep, burned up the phone. We laughed about it and he later repaired and I took both walkie talkies to school with me at UK to chat with a girl I met in another dorm. He had been accepted to Berea and our high school hijinks ended as we moved apart.
I will always have great memories of our times together and what a good friend he was back in high school. I know everyone who knew him will miss him, and my condolences go out to his children and their families.

Wayne was a cherished friend of the Paul Bailey family as far back as I can remember. He and his precious wife Linda were neighbors of my parents and were there providing love and support when Dad died in 2005 and when Mom died in 2010. The Byrds are wonderful people and there is no doubt both Linda and Wayne are with Mom and Dad in Heaven, offering praise and worship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and our Heavenly Father God. There is no pain or heartache there. Let us cherish our memories of Wayne and pray for comfort for his family.
