Obituary of Howard Erwin Whitehead

Howard Erwin Whitehead Howard Erwin Whitehead, age 87, 650 Beaumont Ave, Harrodsburg, widower of Jewell Marie Tyler Whitehead, died Friday, May 6, 2005 at his residence. Born November 29, 1917 in Walland, TN, he was the son of the late John Huston and Sarah Jane (Burns) Whitehead. He served his country during World War II in the Army. Howard was a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church and the Mercer County Senior Citizens. He taught school starting in 1941 at Rose Hill and retiring from the Mercer County School System in 1976. Howard also retired from the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital where he was a purchasing agent from 1976-1990. Survivors include two daughters: Peggy (Larry) Short of Harrodsburg, KY, Kay (David) Simpson of Henderson, KY; one sister: Ethel Mae Ratledge of Walland, TN; four grandchildren, Shelia Burns, Shelley Klassen, David Simpson and Travis Simpson; two great grandchildren, Daniel Keith Burns and Makenzie Lee Burns. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM, Monday, May 9 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Albert Gisler and Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation will be Sunday, May 8 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Monday prior to Service at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to Mercer County Senior Citizens.
