Clyde Edward Major, age 82, 1856 Curdsville Road, Harrodsburg, wife of Elsie Evelyn Buckley Major, died Sunday, July 15, 2007 at his residence. Born August 11, 1924 in High Bridge, KY, he was the son of the late Willie Edward and Rena (Hicks) Major. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a KY Colonel, and a retired Kentucky Utilities Power Accountant. Mr. Major also served 2 terms as Mercer Co. Magistrate, and authored Family History: High Bridge and KY River Area. He was a member of the Shakertown Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and usher, and formerly served as Sunday School Superintendent, Treasurer, and Trustee. Survivors other than his wife include: one daughter, Renee (James) Reed of Harrodsburg, KY; two sons, Thomas Ledford (Ima) Major of Maysville, KY, and Jackie Wayne (Penny) Major of Harrodsburg, KY; one step son, Dr. Allen Keith Lahham of Charlestown, IL; two step daughters, Stephanie Jane (Roger) Rives of Mattoon, IL, and Jennifer (Glenn) Belt of Newburg, IN; 10 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchild, 3 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a wife, Floretta Savage Major, and two grandchildren, Sabrina and Katrina Reed. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 PM, Wed., July 19 at the Shakertown Baptist Church by Joe Smith and Derek Baker with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, with military rites. Pallbearers are Jim Reed, T.C. Major, Robert Major, Mark Major, Bennie Lane, Gary Fraley, and Nick Reed. Honorary bearers are grandchildren, step grandchildren, and Adult S.S. Class members and Deacons of Shakertown Baptist Church. Visitation will be after 5 PM Tuesday, July 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, and Thursday from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service at Shakertown Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Shakertown Baptist Church or Heritage Hospice.
