Obituary of Bessie Rhea Taliaferro

Please share a memory of Bessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bessie Rhea Tewmey (Compton) Taliaferro, 78, of Harrodsburg KY was taken into the hand of our lord on this 8th day of November 2007. Bessie was born on March 17, 1929 in Harrodsburg to the late Laura May and James Garnett Tewmey. Her life was a tribute to love for her family and love for life. She had the largest, warmest and most loving of hearts and shared that love with everyone she met. Bessie was a graduate of Harrodsburg High School. She was formerly employed by Pinchback-Halloran Motors, Charme’ Ladies Fashions and the State of Kentucky. She was married to the late Robert J. Taliaferro of Lexington and the late Byron T. Compton of Harrodsburg. She had retired to her dream home in Homosassa FL. Only this year she made a joyful return to the home in which she grew up on Factory Street in Harrodsburg. Although she did not have many days in her new “old” home before becoming ill, it was a joy to her and her family to be home again. Bessie was the mother of sons Stephen T. Compton (Deanie) of Lexington KY, Richard L. Compton (Mittie) of Nashville TN and the late Jeffrey L. Compton (Patty) of Versailles. She is survived by grandchildren Lindsay R. Collins (Jerome), Shaun R. Compton (Crissy), Kendra Rhea Compton, Eric C. Compton, Stephen T. Compton, Jr., Brandon T. Compton, Kristen A. Compton and Cody R. Compton; great grandchildren Alex McClain, Jasmine Collins and Caramia Collins. Bessie was the loving sister of James Lloyd Tewmey (Flo) of Harrodsburg, Daisy Freeman (Nolan) of Cedar Key FL and the late Irma Case of Miami FL. To Aunt Bessie as she was called, she is also survived by the largest loving extension of her family of cousins, nieces, nephews and their daughters and sons. There was more than enough of Bessie’s love to share with all. Bessie loved her family reunions and is now reunited with the family that departed this earth before her and will enjoy them now as she enjoyed those of us who remain. One can not measure the amount of love that is being taken from this earth or the sorrow for our loss. We can only rejoice in the life that was Bessie and hope to be as loving in life and family as she. All who have known her or have been touched by her kind heart will miss her and the lord will surely celebrate the arrival of our most beloved and adored Bessie. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 AM until the hour of service.
