Lt. Colonel Edwin T. Elliott, age 87, 111 Ott Elliott Lane, Harrodsburg, died Friday, September 26 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born July 23, 1916 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Price and Mary Catherine Wren Elliott and the husband of Leona Devine Elliott, Harrodsburg. He was a retired Army Lt. Colonel having served a total of 28 years including service in WW II, the Korean War, and in the Kentucky National Guard. He was also a retired Harrodsburg Postmaster, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation, Harrodsburg Lions Club, VFW, American Legion, Mercer Masonic Lodge # 777 F&AM, Olieka Shrine Temple , and Past President of the Kentucky Postmasters Association.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Don Elliott, Harrodsburg and Ott Elliott, Lawrenceburg, a sister, Eunice Tyler, Danville; two grandchildren, Ashley Cosby and Alex Elliott; a great-grandchild, Cory Cosby, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Edwin T. Elliott Jr., four brothers, James, Ralph, J.W. and Virgil Elliott and a sister Genivieve McCandless.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Monday, September 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rick Snyder and Eddie Russell. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 until 8 pm with Masonic Rites conducted at7:30 pm and after 7:30 am Monday until the hour of the service at the chapel.
The family request memorial donations be sent to Lions Club Eye foundation or the Mercer Co. Senior Citizens.
Pallbearers are Virgil Elliott, Jr., Calvin Wiley, Bob Trisler, Ed Berg, Tom Matney, Taylor Elliott, and Bill Brinkley. Honorary bearers are current and former members of the Harrodsburg Lions Club.
