Joe Allen Perkins, age 71, Harrodsburg, husband of Sue Miller Perkins, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at his home in Harrodsburg, KY. Born March 16, 1936 in Louisville, KY, Joe lived in Shelbyville and Irvine before moving to Harrodsburg. He was the son of the late John A. and Ailene (Tichenor) Perkins. Joe was an Army Captain, serving during the Berlin Crisis for the 100th Division. Joe retired as manager from Kentucky Utilities and led a very active civic life. He was a member of the Solomon Lodge #5, Shelbyville, the Scottish Rite, Oleika Shrine. He served as past president of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club, Harrodsburg Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees. Joe was also a Paul Harris Fellow, a board member for the Industrial Authority and Bluegrass Area Development, was active in the Boy Scouts and was a 4H leader, co-founder of Pioneer Days and earned the Harrods Company Award. Survivors include: his wife: Sue (Miller) Perkins, and one son: Kevin (Ann-Margret) Perkins of Harrodsburg, KY; Daughter-in-law, Cari Perkins of Harrodsburg, KY; three Grandchildren, Alex Perkins, Olivia Perkins and John Preston Perkins. He was predeceased by a son: Cpt. John Perkins. Funeral services will be 11AM, Tuesday, February 12 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Dr. Robert DeFoor, Phil Williams and Mark Thompson. Burial, with Military Rites, will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Pallbearers are: Alex Perkins, Kenny Wade, Marion Souder, Phil Williams, Roger Miller, David Miller, Joe Stevens and John Preston Perkins. Honorary Bearers are: Jim Ingram, Don Wilson, Cecil McGee, Monty Phillips, LeMayne Ellis, Alvis Johnson, Jim McGlone, Don Hayslett, Tebbs Moore, N.B. “Pollie” Stratton, Charlie Johnston, Charles "Whitie" Simpson, Lou Kerrick and David Noel. Visitation will be Monday, February 11 from 5-8 pm with a Masonic service at 7:30 and Tuesday prior to Service at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to Wilderness Trace YMCA, Harrodsburg Baptist Church or the Harrodsburg Christian Church share the light fund.
