John D. Brown, age 87, Burgin, widower of Georgia Hager Brown, died Sunday, April 13, 2008. at the home of his daughter in Harrodsburg. Born August 11, 1920 in Burgin, KY, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Rachel Denny Brown. He was member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and former member of the Burgin Baptist where he had served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member for many years, and was currently attending Carpenter’s Christian Church. He served during World War II in the Army. He was former Mayor of Burgin, had served on Burgin Board of Trustees, former Burgin Fire Chief, and Past President of Central Kentucky Fireman's Assoc., served as Elections Officer for several years, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 777 F & AM, Oleika Shrine Temple, Past President and Secretary of Burgin Lion's Club. He owned and operated Burgin Block Works for over 23 years, and Brown Ceramics for 35 years. Survivors include: one daughter: Bonnie Peavler of Harrodsburg, and one son: Donald B. Brown of Burgin, five grandchildren: John Peavler, Amy Peavler, Jan Nixon, Donna Brown, Lynda Brown and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 16 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Greg Warren. Burial with military rites will be in the Burgin Memorial Garden. Pallbearers are: John B. Peavler, Logan & Josh Woods, Daniel Sims, Clay & Casey Westerfield and George Hensley Visitation will be Tuesday, April 15 from after 5:00 PM with Masonic service at 7:30 PM, and Wednesday morning prior to Service at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
