James M. Keightley, age 84, Harrodsburg, husband of Margaret Cummins Keightley, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital, Harrodsburg, KY. Born October 26, 1923 in Harrodsburg, KY, he was the son of the late Walker B. and Emma Moore Keightley. He served as a flight surgeon in the U. S. Air Force and while stationed in Riverside CA, completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and delivered over 700 babies. He also served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He attended Centre College, University of Kentucky and University of New Hampshire and received his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1947. He began his general practice in 1949; but, was interrupted by his military service. In 1953 he resumed his general practice in Harrodsburg where he remained until retiring in 2003. He was named Chapter Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians in 1973 and qualified as a life member in 1995. Dr. Keightely was a member of the James B. Haggin Hospital Board for 17 years, was Chief of staff for 9 years and served a total of 50 years on the Medical Staff. He also served on the Board of Directors of the State Bank and Trust Co. for some 45 years. Survivors include: his wife: Margaret Cummins Keightley, one daughter: Julie G. Keightley; Step Daughters: Judy Curtis and Cindy Short LeMay; Granddaughter, Elaine Keightley; Step grandchildren: Meagan Short ?Varney, Cori Short Yeager, Matthew Curtis. Predeceased by a son: Dr.James M. Keightley, Jr., and a step son: Steve Machal. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 28, at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 pm Tuesday, May 27, at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be sent to the Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.
