James Thomas Patterson, Jr. 73, died March 11, 2009. He was the son of the late James Thomas Patterson, Sr. and Elizabeth Hopper Patterson. He was born July 28, 1935 in Mercer County. He graduated from Harrodsburg High School and he attended in University of Kentucky. As a farmer he managed the prison farms for the Commonwealth of Kentucky for thirty years. He was a Mercer County farmer of the year in 1967 and listed in Outstanding Young Men in America in 1969. As a Little League football coach his team won the regional title in 1971. He was a member of several professional farming organizations and the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 53 years; Carolyn Sue West Patterson, one son; James Thomas (Lysha) Patterson, III, three daughters; Lisa Brooking Patterson, Cynthia Patterson (Danny) Goodwin, and Kathleen Patterson Jackson, a sister: Mary Louise Relaford, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 14 by Rev Ken Klemme, at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be Jeremy S. Patterson, J. Hunter Patterson, T. Holden Patterson, D. Spencer Goodwin, Christopher Elliot, and G. Thomas Howells. Honorary pallbearers will be David A. Taylor, Joe A. Stevens, Bacon R. Moore, III, Don L. Notter, Louis Daugherty, John Reed, George W. Vanarsdall, James D. Baxter Jr., G. Hagan Jackson, and Charles McKenney. Visitation Friday 5:00-8:00 PM at the chapel and Saturday prior to the service. Those who prefer to contribute please send to the Mercer County Public Library.
