Frances P. Durr, 99, of Harrodsburg, died peacefully Sunday morning, March 15, 2009 in the home of her daughter, Mary Paxton D. Colley, and son-in-law, Dan Colley, in Athens, Georgia. A native of Waddy, Kentucky, she was born on June 12, 1909. She, along with her husband, the late Haldon C. Durr were active members of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where she taught the young adult women’s Sunday School class for 45 years. For the last two years she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in their home in Athens, Georgia. Preceding her in death was her husband, Haldon Durr, and her two sisters, Elsie Neal and Mary Katherine Marshall. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by her grandson, Thomas A. Colley and his wife Ann Hruby, of Chicago, Illinois. Frances was greatly loved and her strong faith, graciousness and spirit will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. She will long be remembered for her work in her church, by Centre College students in the early 1960s, and by the many friends she made in Shelby, Mercer and Boyle Counties, Nashville, Atlanta and Athens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00pm at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Her funeral service will be held at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel at 11:00am on Friday, March 20, 2009, with Dr. Bob Defoor, Dr. David George and the Rev. Wayne Spivey officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charlie Ison, Joe Harlow, Mike Matherly, Andy Seila, Bill Barnett and Jerry Walker. Her family wishes to thank VistaCare, a hospice organization in Athens, Georgia, for the loving care they extended to her and to them during the final days of her life. Memorials may be made to either the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, VistaCare (150 Ben Burton Road, Bogart, GA 30622) or Campbell University Divinity School (P.O. Box 4050, Buies Creek, NC 27506) for the Colley-Powers Endowed Scholarship and Multi-Cultural Education Fund, established in honor and in memory of Frances P. and Haldon C. Durr.
