David H. Patterson, age 72, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday at his home with Patricia Ann Donovan Patterson, affectionately referred to as “P.A.,” his loving wife of 51 years, by his side.Born February 10, 1937 in McAfee, KY, he was the son of Vera Mae (Kurtz) Patterson, Harrodsburg, and the late David Houston Patterson. He was a retired US Army Reserve Lt. Colonel having served for over 30 years, and was a retired KY State Police Captain. During his 30 years with the KSP, David had served as state-wide Communications Network Commander, Public Information Officer for Post 7, Asst. Post Commander of Pikeville Post 9, and had headed the Organized Crime Unit for a number of years. During his career in the Army Reserves, he had served as Company Commander, Division Provost Marshall, and Battalion Commander. He was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church, and had been a member of the Harrodsburg and Frankfort Kiwanis Club. He was a KY Colonel. David was known by his family as “Pop” and had a great love for his family. In their retirement, David and Pat enjoyed farming, camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and traveling. Survivors other than his wife and mother include: four daughters, Cindy (Joe) Wilson, Becky (Keith) Horn, Pamela (Jimmy) Drakeford, and Jessica (Mike) Elliott-Harmon, all of Harrodsburg, KY; one son, David (Cheryl) Patterson of Harrogate, TN; one sister, Patricia Gayle Clarke of Cecelia, KY; one brother, James Edward Patterson of Mercer Co., KY; twelve grandchildren, Joe (Sonya) Wilson, Dustin (Carey) Wilson, Josh Wilson, Kaitlin & Amber Patterson, Tyler, Kendra & Jillian Horn, Jimmy (Kristy) Drakeford, Haley and Austin Elliott, and Dowell Harmon; seven great grandchildren, Joseph Humphrey, Kaden, Carter, & Landen Wilson, Kaelin, Anna, and Ashton Drakeford. He was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Ann Patterson.His thought on religion: “Faith is to the soul as the sun is to stain glass windows.”Pop, you will be missed as a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great g randfather, and friend.Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church by Father Danny Schwendeman, Father Peter Joseph, Father Frank Osburg and Father Amal.Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and members of the KSP will serve as honorary bearers.Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Church.Memorial contributions may be sent to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, St. Andrew Catholic Church Building Fund, or Heritage Hospice.
